A 17-year-old Fort Myers girl is dead after a crash on Gladiolus Drive in Fort Myers Wednesday morning.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, an 18-year-old Fort Myers man was driving a sedan east on Gladiolus Dr., approaching a red light at Maida Ln. with a 17-year-old Fort Myers girl in the passenger seat.
FHP said a 30-year-old Fort Myers man was initially stopped in his SUV on Gladiolus Dr., in the left turn lane before the arrow turned green.
The 18-year-old driver, according to troopers, failed to stop at the red light and entered the intersection before striking the passenger side of the other vehicle.
The SUV was then redirected to the east where it struck a wastewater lift station. A third vehicle was damaged by crash debris.
Troopers said both drivers were taken to the hospital with serious injuries. The 17-year-old passenger was pronounced dead on the scene.
The identity of those involved has not been shared at this time.
