Drivers on Colonial Boulevard near Six Mile Cypress Parkway are confused due to incorrect directions from Apple Maps.
The Florida Department of Transportation recently installed a new traffic pattern, shifting drivers to the opposite side of the road if they need to turn left onto Six Mile Cypress.
This new diverging diamond interchange can be confusing, especially for drivers unfamiliar with the area.
Apple Maps hasn't been updated yet to reflect these changes. The GPS still guides drivers to make a left turn on Six Mile Cypress, which is no longer possible.
This has led to close calls, particularly for those still relying on GPS for directions.
Local drivers, including Rico Coley from Lehigh Acres and Veronica Corcione from Fort Myers, shared their frustration, with some saying they almost crashed while following their maps.
Gulf Coast News contacted Apple about the issue, and the company confirmed that once a report is submitted, engineers will review and update the maps.
When completed, the update will automatically show on all Apple users’ phones, reflecting the correct navigation.
Until then, drivers should stay alert, follow road signs and avoid relying solely on GPS in the area.
