A new seltzer called PureNative is rolling out on our Gulf Coast. The twist is it's spiked with THC instead of alcohol.
“We're kind of like one of the first ones in the state and jump in and do these things. Looking at the market to our knowledge that we have not found, there's no one that offers a caffeine, and a THC boost at the same time,” said Cole Peacock, Co-founder of Pure Native and owner of Seed and Bean in downtown Fort Myers.
THC is the chemical in marijuana that gets you high. These seltzers are packing the mind-enhancing plant extract in two flavors.
“We have the melon and the berrylicious. It's a zero sugar, with caffeine-infused in both of them,” said Peacock.
Paris Sales said she prefers a THC seltzer over an alcoholic one.
“It's a lot more mild of an effect. Just really makes you feel more social than intoxicated. I like that a little bit more than alcohol,” said Sales.
Peacock said it's legal for PureNative to put THC into these seltzers, because it’s a low-grade, giving it approval from the federal farm bill.
“It's hemp-derived, so it's not a medical marijuana, which is going to have much higher THC dosage and count and strength,” said Peacock.
Peacock said five milligrams per serving is the maximum the state of Florida allows in hemp-derived products.
“If you see a can that says ten milligrams, it's probably two servings,” said Peacock.
