Wrong-way drivers have been causing chaos on the road recently, with one car driving off the on-ramp to Interstate 75 near Immokalee Road.
Drivers said they’re used to seeing reckless drivers, but it needs to stop.
“It's definitely concerning. I mean, traffic is obviously a big issue here in this town and having the infrastructure to handle the traffic, but I don't think that's the safest move to exit on the on-ramp,” said Naples resident Will Asher.
Asher said, thankfully, no cars were using the on ramp, but said it goes to show just how careful you have to be to be on the road.
“It goes both ways, for people either making mistakes, they have to be cautious, but other drivers just have to be even more cautious when they're doing the right thing. Just to keep everyone safe,” said Asher.
That isn’t the only wrong-way driver we’ve seen on the Gulf Coast. The Collier County Sheriff’s Office said a wrong-way driver caused a crash near Golden Gate Parkway and Premier Drive Friday night. CCSO said two people had to be trauma alerted, and there is an active investigation.
“The traffic is getting worse and worse. More people, more cars, more accidents,” said Naples driver Stan Garaj.
Garaj is no stranger to wrong-way drivers. He said someone going the wrong way almost hit him.
“At three in the morning, the car was speeding the wrong way in the left lane towards me, probably a hundred miles an hour. I had to swerve in the completely in the grass,” said Garaj.
A feeling he thinks no one should have to experience.
“People will panic. They don't know what to do. Oh my God. A car’s coming; what am I supposed to do,” asked Garaj.
