On March 3, FGCU men's basketball thought its season was over. The Eagles lost to Queens for the third year in a row in the ASUN Tournament quarterfinals. However, Pat Chambers and Company are not done yet.
FGCU men's basketball will play in the upcoming College Basketball Invitational (CBI).
The CBI is a secondary postseason tournament for teams deserving of more games, but did not qualify for the NCAA Tournament's 68-team field. The tournament is four rounds and will be held from March 22-26 at the Ocean Center in Daytona Beach, Florida.
FGCU has earned a first-round bye. The Eagles will take on the winner of Elon versus Army West Point in the quarterfinals on Monday, March 24. The game is scheduled for 2 p.m. and can be seen on FloSports.
There are some familiar faces in this year's CBI. Fellow ASUN foes Jacksonville and Queens join FGCU in the postseason tournament. Both of them are on the bottom of the bracket, while the Eagles are on the top half. So, a potential conference rematch would not happen until the championship.
This is FGCU's fifth time playing in a secondary postseason tournament. The Eagles played in the National Invitation Tournament in 2018 and 2014, losing in the first round both times. In 2015, they played in the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament, falling in the opening round. Most recently, FGCU made it to the second round of The Basketball Classic in 2022.
