A man has been sentenced to 60 years in prison after being convicted of fentanyl trafficking after a law enforcement operation targeting drug suppliers in Southwest Florida.
According to the State Attorney’s Office, Luis Abel Toruno, 43, was arrested in 2020 as part of Operation Block Party, a NETFORCE investigation.
He was convicted on two counts of conspiracy to traffic fentanyl in amounts of 28 grams or more.
A jury in Lee County found him guilty, and he was sentenced to 30 years on each count, with a 25-year mandatory minimum, to be served consecutively.
Toruno was identified during the investigation as a supplier of fentanyl in Lee County, authorities said.
He is already serving a 25-year prison sentence for a separate drug trafficking conviction in Hendry County, which was also the result of a NETFORCE investigation.
NETFORCE was established by State Attorney Amira Fox in collaboration with law enforcement agencies to combat drug trafficking, organized crime, racketeering, and money laundering in Southwest Florida.
Assistant State Attorney John Dommerich Jr., chief of special prosecutions, and Assistant State Attorney Natalie Savino, Hendry and Glades Circuit Court chief, prosecuted the case.
