A massive fire broke out at a home on Hutto Lane, just off Orange River Boulevard, between Tice and Buckingham on Sunday.
The blaze, which started shortly after 3 p.m. in the barn and garage area, quickly spread due to strong winds and dry conditions, making it difficult for firefighters to contain.
Battalion Fire Chief Matthew Williams of the Tice Fire District said the family lost several belongings, including boats, side-by-side tractors, and most of the items stored in the garage.
Firefighters battled the flames for hours, with heavy smoke engulfing the area. The lack of nearby hydrants also complicated efforts, leading to support from the Fort Myers Shores and Bayshore Fire Districts.
The homeowners had a pond on their property, allowing crews to set up drafting operations for additional water.
Despite the challenging conditions, firefighters successfully contained the fire, which had spread into the woods behind the home.
The Division of Forestry was called to assist with creating a fire line in the woods. The fire was fully extinguished, and thankfully, no injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but the family is safe and able to stay in their home.
