Yes, it's only March, and the National Hurricane Center has tagged a non-tropical area of low pressure on Monday, about 700 miles northeast of the northern Leeward Islands. It's producing strong winds and widespread thunderstorms, but it is unlikely to develop into a tropical storm.
The system is expected to move northward into an area with strong upper-level winds and dry air by Tuesday, limiting its chances for further organization.
According to the NHC, the system is producing gale-force winds and disorganized showers, but conditions in the atmosphere are not favorable for significant strengthening.
Forecasters estimate only a 10% chance of development over the next two to seven days.
The NHC is monitoring the disturbance, but no further Special Tropical Weather Outlooks are scheduled unless conditions change.
Routine tropical weather forecasts will begin on May 15, though updates will still be released as needed before then.
Hurricane season begins June 1.
