The Polk County Sheriff's Office recovered the body of a 12-year-old boy who was last seen swimming in Winter Haven's Lake Roy.
PCSO began searching for the boy, Noah Gomez, in Lake Roy who was last seen swimming before reportedly disappearing in the water.
According to the sheriff's office, Gomez was boating on the lake with his father and his 9-year-old cousin when water became rough due to 30 mph wind.
Deputies said Gomez and his cousin jumped into the lake where they had trouble swimming. His dad got the 9-year-old boy out, but Gomez drifted away from the boat.
The sheriff's office said both boys can swim but they were not wearing life jackets.
Deputies, along with the Winter Haven Police Department and Polk County Fire Rescue, responded to the scene where they said crews used underwater sonar devices, drones, a helicopter and boats to aid in the search.
