A 30-year-old cyclist, Christian Artman, was struck by a car while riding along U.S. 41 in San Carlos Park on Sunday night at 9 p.m.
His father, Michael Artman, said he was out to grab a late-night snack when the accident occurred. Michael and his son Christian are struggling to understand why the driver didn’t stop.
“He doesn’t know what caused this or why it happened,” Michael said.
Christian suffered serious injuries, including a broken pelvis, ligament damage, severe swelling, and road rash.
He is now recovering at home, but it will be a long road to recovery. Authorities have identified the vehicle involved as a red Chevy Camaro, which was captured on FDOT cameras, and investigators are working with tips from the public to locate the driver.
Michael expressed his frustration, calling the driver's actions “despicable.” Crime Stoppers manager Trish Routte is urging anyone with information to come forward, emphasizing that the driver showed no care for Christian’s well-being.
Christian is now on bed rest for at least six weeks, and his family is hoping for justice as the investigation continues.
