Spring is here, and that means getting ready for flowers, blooming trees and the sneezing and wheezing of seasonal allergies. So, what can you do to reduce your allergy triggers?
Justin Ceravolo, pharmacist and owner of Cypress Wellness Pharmacy, joined Gulf Coast News to break down what allergy season looks like along the Gulf Coast.
The allergy season in Florida takes place during the entire year. Because Florida has a mild winter, some plants continue to grow and pollinate throughout the winter. However, you’ll want to keep an eye on pollen counts in April, May, and September.
So, before planning your day, check the area’s pollen count forecast. To help reduce your allergy triggers, you can keep doors and windows shut to prevent pollen from coming indoors. Also, delegate outdoor chores, such as mowing the lawn and gardening, and avoid air-drying clothes and bedding outside where pollen can stick to it.
If high pollen counts are forecasted, take allergy medication before symptoms start. After outdoor activities, change into clean clothes and shower to rinse pollen from skin and hair. Even wiping pets down with a towel after playing outdoors can help reduce your allergies.
Ceravolo recommends 2-3 vitamins and supplements that can help fight seasonal allergies, such as Cypress Wellness Pharmacy’s Aller-Calm, Immune Daily Support, Bromelain and Quercetin.
