A Virginia man was arrested last week in Lee County after he was accused of working as an unlicensed contractor during a state of emergency. He later posted bond and was released the following day.
According to state prosecutors, Daniel J. Hill was charged with unlicensed contracting between May 1 and July 31, 2023.
Documents allege he unlawfully advertised or engaged in contracting work without the required state certification, violating Florida Statute 489.127(2)(c).
The charges stem from work he performed for a client in Lee County while a state of emergency was in effect.
Hill, whose listed address is in Keokee, Virginia, was arrested on March 13 and released on a $10,000 bond the next day.
Court records show he has filed a written plea of not guilty and waived arraignment. A case management conference is scheduled for May 8.
Unlicensed contracting is a serious offense in Florida, especially during states of emergency, when authorities prioritize consumer protection from fraud and substandard work.
