A former Southwest Florida basketball star was honored last week when she became the first Florida SouthWestern State College basketball player in school history to be named to the hall of fame.
According to the Florida College System Activities Association, two-time All-American Tina Stephens was elected to the FCSAA Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame while her former team, the Florida SouthWestern State College Buccaneers, competed in a postseason tournament in Niceville.
Stephens played two seasons for the Buccaneers, becoming the first player in program history to score 1,000 points. She still holds school records for points scored with 1,071 and rebounds with 490.
She earned Honorable Mention All-American honors as a freshman and became the program’s first first-team All-American as a sophomore in 2019.
During her time with the Bucs, she helped lead the team to back-to-back Suncoast Conference Championships, including a 30-win season and their first trip to the national tournament.
Stephens later played two seasons at the University of Kansas before finishing her collegiate career at Troy University in 2022. She scored 1,733 points and collected 919 rebounds in her college career while shooting better than 50% from the field.
She joins former FSW softball player Courtney Gettins as one of only two athletes from the school to have been inducted into their sport’s respective hall of fame.
