An East Naples man was arrested Thursday morning after deputies found evidence of child pornography uploaded through a social media account linked to his home.
According to the Collier County Sheriff's Office arrest report, an investigation began in November after the social media platform Kik reported a tip about 26 files believed to contain child sexual abuse material.
Deputies said they reviewed the content and confirmed that at least 10 videos met the legal definition of child pornography under Florida statutes.
Investigators traced the uploads to a Collier County address using the associated IP address. A search warrant for the account and the address was granted earlier this month.
Deputies said Michael Anthony Barbina II, 25, was found at the home during the execution of the search warrant and admitted to using the Kik account involved in the uploads.
Detectives said Barbina acknowledged viewing pornography but denied remembering specific files tied to the investigation.
He also admitted one of the explicit images recovered belonged to him, according to the report. Deputies said Barbina told them child sexual abuse material may also be on his phone.
Barbina faces 11 felony counts of possessing child sexual abuse material and 11 felony counts of transmitting it electronically. The sheriff’s office is recommending the charges be enhanced based on the volume and content of the material.
