A funeral procession for a sheriff's sergeant is expected to disrupt traffic in parts of Collier County Friday morning, as law enforcement vehicles move through major roads from 9 to 11:45 a.m.
The procession will honor Sergeant Alan Flanagan Sr., who died after a long medical battle.
Drivers should expect temporary road closures and a large number of law enforcement and other vehicles along the route.
The procession will begin on Golden Gate Boulevard, continue along Collier Boulevard, Vanderbilt Beach Road and Livingston Road, and conclude at First Naples Church on Orange Blossom Drive.
Sgt. Flanagan began his career with the Collier County Sheriff’s Office in 1984 as a Patrol deputy.
He was promoted to sergeant in 1999. Although he retired in 2013, he remained a part of the agency, moving to a volunteer position.
Retirement was short-lived and he returned to CCSO as a deputy in 2014.
He moved up to corporal and was ultimately assigned to the Real-Time Operations Center until 2023 when he retired and moved to volunteer status where he remained until his passing.
