A man was taken into custody early Friday after barricading himself inside a south Fort Myers home in The Villas for several hours in which he showed a gun, prompting a SWAT team response.
According to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called shortly after midnight Friday to a home on Gorham Avenue for a domestic disturbance involving a man with a gun. The man refused to come out and barricaded himself inside.
The sheriff’s office deployed its SWAT team and drone unit. Video shows deputies giving the man verbal commands before using tear gas.
He eventually came out of the home and was taken into custody. Deputies are saying it started as a domestic disturbance. However, the suspect was the only person involved in the barricade situation.
Officials have not released the man’s name and no injuries were reported.
