Employees at a Dollar Tree store along College Parkway woke up to a huge surprise.
They discovered that someone had attempted to steal wire from the old coolers left outside.
What was supposed to be a routine work morning quickly turned into an unexpected theft.
"I guess somebody was interested in some kind of copper wiring or taking place. Any of these parts that they could use or sell, maybe, these coolers are old and have just been replaced, and someone, obviously had an opportunity," said Tyler Vanhorn, Dollar Tree freight store manager.
Freight store manager Tyler Vanhorn said there were no signs of forced entry. The old coolers had been left in the parking lot for a few days, awaiting pickup. However, someone saw an opportunity and decided to rummage through them.
"These should have been taken care of. They shouldn't be outside. They shouldn't be at the disposal of anyone. And, so the lack of disposal, caused somebody to be interested in maybe, taking advantage of it," said Vanhorn.
Tyler said the police caught the suspect and he chose not to press charges.
"It's very tedious. It's difficult to get things done sometimes because, you know, you're busy mopping up other stuff or you're busy taking care of things like this," said Vanhorn.
While not an ideal situation, Tyler assured that the incident won't slow the store down as they've already received new replacement coolers.
He does have one important piece of advice for other store managers in the area.
"Just to, just to really communicate with, like I said, your local facilities, because, you know, these things do happen, and it seems to be more common than uncommon," said Vanhorn.
