Work is being done at the Cape Coral Yacht Club Pier. A group of on-site workers had already caught the attention of people spending their day at the beach, sparking curiosity.
"When are they going to start the project?' asked Cape Coral beachgoer Tom Mish.
People living in the Cape are anxious to see the yacht club pier rebuilt since Hurricane Ian destroyed it back in 2022.
There have been a lot of questions on where the project stands?
"Looking to see what they are doing, whether they're going to start repairing it? Because they never put anything on the news or TV about what's going on in this whole area," Mish said.
Cape Coral is one step closer to rebuilding the yacht club pier. According to the Yacht Club Community's website, design plans for the fishing pier are still underway and should be completed by May.
Gulf Coast News found out the people working on the pier are on-site construction workers from "Universal Engineering." They will be there all week testing soil — to figure out how long pier pilings need to be and what kind of weight they can support.
In the meantime, residents are excited to see the project get underway.
"The people around here would love to see them fix the pier. If nothing else, fix the pier. You know, because, like I said, fishermen, they used to be tons of fishermen," Mish said.
Construction isn't expected to start on the pier until at least October.
