Bald is beautiful — just ask the birds. The Parrot Outreach Society is a nonprofit in Punta Gorda that rescues, rehabilitates and facilitates adoptions of parrots.
Eve Butler and Melanie Abal from the Parrot Outreach Society, along with Jeanne from A Helping Wing Parrot Rescue in New Jersey, joined Gulf Coast News to discuss what causes birds to bald.
Birds can experience temporary baldness, which is often because of an abnormal molt in which head feathers are shed simultaneously or due to factors like feather mites, lice, nutritional deficiencies or even injuries. Molting patterns vary from species to species.
