Gulf Coast News has confirmed Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno is eyeing a run for the Congress seat currently held by Byron Donalds , who is currently running for governor to replace Gov. Ron DeSantis in 2026.
Marceno's campaign consultant, Anthony Pedicini, said Marceno is seriously considering the run.
The announcement comes amid an FBI investigation into the sheriff. A grand jury has been investigating the sheriff for months on allegations of money laundering .
Marceno admitted that the FBI requested documents, which he said he had turned over.
Marceno was unavailable for comment.
