People were waiting outside Sugarshack Downtown in Bonita Springs for Byron Donalds to speak on Friday.
Since arriving, there have been peaceful protests across the street from the restaurant. Those inside are here to support Byron Donalds as he begins his run for governor of Florida.
Donalds already has an endorsement from President Donald Trump, who believes he should become governor of Florida.
Mike Major from Fort Myers said, "Integrity and enthusiasm, and a clear vision of what he feels is best for the country. I disagree with him on Medicare for all, but he's got a reasoned approach to it, and he has his own principles. He believes that they make more sense to him. I disagree. That's what debates about."
