The Lee County Sheriff's Office is warning residents to be aware of scammers posing as the agency to solicit money from people over the phone.
LCSO said it had received reports from residents claiming they've received calls for failing to appear for jury duty, outstanding warrants and unpaid traffic violations.
According to an LCSO Facebook post , residents indicated that they received phone calls that appeared to have originated from LCSO based on the caller ID.
Deputies noted caller identification numbers can be changed and manipulated. LCSO stated it would never solicit money from people via phone, text or email. The agency also said LCSO would never call, text or email and threaten incarceration for failure to pay.
