Deputies said a Port Charlotte man was arrested for chasing his ex-girlfriend and ramming into her car several times while she was driving along U.S. 41.
This happened on March 21, around 8 a.m., on U.S. 41 South near Cochran Boulevard.
A woman called 911 in distress, screaming and crying for help, telling the operator her ex-boyfriend, Wesley McElroy, was following her vehicle and ramming his truck into her.
As the woman tried to flee, she told the 911 operator, “He keeps hitting my car, he’s hitting my car, stop hitting my car! Oh, my God!”
She continued, explaining that McElroy was following her and repeatedly ramming her car. At one point, the woman was forced to stop at a red light, where McElroy exited his vehicle and approached her.
Desperate for help, she pleaded with the operator, “He’s trying to get in my car. He’s trying to bust my window.”
Moments later, Charlotte County deputies responded quickly to the scene and arrested McElroy at the Ellicott Circle intersection. He was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and violating a no-contact order.
McElroy's actions were deemed a clear threat to the safety of the woman and other drivers on the road.
