A 17-year-old Palmetto Ridge High School student is facing charges after a gun was found in his vehicle at the school's parking lot, Collier County deputies said.
According to the Collier County Sheriff's Office, the weapon that was found Monday was a loaded semi-automatic handgun.
CCSO detectives said he did not threaten anyone and didn't bring the gun into the school.
According to CCSO, the student was charged with possession of a firearm on school property and possession of a firearm by a person under 18.
There will be an enhanced law enforcement presence at the campus on Tuesday out of an abundance of caution.
