The trial of Nicholas Canfield, accused of sexually abusing and murdering 2-year-old Jaliyah, resumes Monday with emotional testimonies from the victim's family.

Homicide detectives testified that Canfield, the boyfriend of Jaliyah Ramos's mother, claimed he was giving the little girl a bath. However, graphic photos presented in court showed Jaliyah's body at Lee Memorial Hospital covered in bruises on her head, torso, and private areas.
Prosecutors argue that these injuries prove Canfield murdered and sexually abused Jaliyah.
Gulf Coast News was in the courtroom when Jaliyah's father took the stand, describing the last moments he saw Jaliyah alive. Jaliyah's uncle also testified, both sitting just feet away from the toddler's accused killer.
Canfield sat with little emotion during the testimony. Court proceedings continued Monday morning at 9:15, and Gulf Coast News is in the courtroom for the duration of the trial.
