Another 17-year-old has been arrested in connection with the death of 34-year-old Priscilla Hallihan.
Hallihan was shot and killed in her Port LaBelle home Saturday night, according to the Hendry County Sheriff's Office.
"We think this is horrible. Even speaking to the investigators this morning, they said this has been so difficult for all of us. But their mission was to find out who did it, make the arrest and make the charges stick," said Susan Harrelle, of the Hendry County Sheriff's Office.
The suspected shooter has been identified as 17-year-old Antonio Arenivar, who was arrested on Sunday.
Deputies have not named the other suspect but have searched his home.
"They did locate in his room a gun box that had a serial number on it," Harrelle said.
A short time later, K-9 units found a handgun with a matching serial number to the gun case found in the teen's bedroom. The sheriff's office is waiting on ballistics to determine if it was used in the killing.
According to the Hendry County Sheriff's Office, the 17-year-old boy was taken to the Hendry County Jail.
This suspect was charged on unrelated charges of misdemeanor offense of possession of a firearm by a juvenile. The 17-year-old boy was taken to the Department of Juvenile Justice, where he is currently being held.
"What occurred should never have occurred to a mother. And now we're talking about children who don't have a parent. So we're taking it extremely serious," Harrelle said.
Neighbors who did not want to go on camera expressed their shock and remembered Hallihan as welcoming, often seeing her children playing around the yard. On Tuesday, a balloon saying "I love you" and flowers were seen stacked against the front door.
"We're a small community, and we all know each other for the most part. We all know one another. So it's not just the children. I mean, there's obviously the ones that are going to be the most affected by it and family members, but it affects the community as well," Harrelle said.
The sheriff's office indicated that there is a possibility that these teenagers could be tried as adults and that more arrests could be coming.
