The trial of a North Fort Myers man accused of sexually abusing and murdering his girlfriend’s 2-year-old daughter continues on Tuesday. On Monday, child witnesses took the stand, adding to the already emotional testimonies.

Prosecutors say the man fatally injured the toddler, Jaliyah Ramos, during what he claimed was a bath.
Medical staff and photos presented in court showed the girl had bruises on her head, torso and private areas, which prosecutors argue are signs of severe abuse and sexual assault.
Testimony on Monday included the Jaliyah's siblings, a crime scene technician, and her mother, who described the living conditions in the home and the punishments the children endured.
The defense questioned the mother, Jasmine Ramos, about inconsistencies in her previous statements.
Court resumed Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. The defendant remained mostly emotionless during the proceedings.
