A record-breaking food drive will help feed more than 20,000 people in our community. We're getting an inside look at the difference donations are making in “Positively Gulf Coast.
Last week, Pelican Bay's 5th Annual Food Drive, benefitting St. Matthew's House, collected over 20,000 pounds of food. That's 5,000 more than last year. All the food filled a record 25 gaylord bins in St. Matthew's food warehouse. Organizers say the effort hits close to home for some donors.
“People understand the needs of those who go hungry. Some of them remember their own childhood and how they had to face that,” shared Barb Davin, a food drive organizer.
St. Matthew's House says this donation is more important than ever with the federal cutbacks and decreasing food donations to food pantries all around the country.
