Two cities on the Gulf Coast set record high temperatures on Wednesday afternoon.
Punta Gorda warmed up to 94 degrees on April 2nd, breaking the previous record high of 92 degrees, first set in 1929 and then tied in 1974.
In Lee County, Fort Myers hit 92 degrees on Wednesday afternoon, tying the record high for the date that was set in 2017.
The average high in both cities this time of the year is 83 degrees.
In Collier County, Naples warmed to 90 degrees on Wednesday, a degree shy of tying the record.
Consistent temperature records have been kept by the National Weather Service since 1902 in Fort Myers, 1914 in Punta Gorda and 1943 in Naples.
