They say lightning doesn't strike the same place twice, but in a San Carlos Park, neighbors say reckless drivers do after a speeding car left a trail of destruction.
Neighbors say an older black Pontiac took out a mailbox, plowed through a yard, and slammed into two parked cars on Pebble Beach Road Tuesday night.
Then? The driver vanished.
Both cars belong to Any Vo's family, who heard the crash.
"We heard a loud bang noise, and I thought the neighbor was just rubbing his engine. But finally, we came out, and our car got hit," said Vo, who lives in San Carlos Park.
Vo just had his leg amputated two weeks ago — a life-altering moment he’s still processing. Now, he's having to deal with the disaster in his driveway, and he says it's the second time.
"It's Really sad 'cause this is like my second car accident. So I got hit the first time I parked here with my first car that I had, but the second. Now we can't find the car," he said
Neighbors like Michael Estrella believe college students use Pebble Beach Road as a shortcut home from the bar, often speeding and leaving damage.
"Definitely have seen, like, 6 or 7 mailboxes, my neighbors included, that have been needed to be replaced," Estrella said. "I have two kids, and I don't let them play out on the front yard because of how people are up to this area."
Deputies are still looking for the driver, who was reportedly in an older black Pontiac.
They urge anyone who has seen the car or has video footage to call the Lee County Sheriff's Office at (239)477-1000 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-780-TIPS (8477).
