The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is seeking public input on proposed traffic improvements for Pine Island Road in Cape Coral, an area known for significant congestion.
FDOT is focusing on the stretch of Pine Island Road at Del Prado Boulevard, extending northeast towards Hibiscus Drive. The goal is to make the drive smoother for daily commuters who frequently experience traffic backups.
They are looking at potentially redesigning nearly all of Pine Island Road within the city to improve navigation and accommodate more vehicles.
Proposed improvements include adding a second left turn lane for eastbound traffic at Pondella Road, enhancing lighting and signals, and making the area more accessible for bikers and pedestrians.
There will be an in-person meeting on Thursday, April 3, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Cape Coral Technical College on Santa Barbara Boulevard North.
Attendees will have the opportunity to provide their input and speak directly with FDOT leaders about the Pine Island Road project.
