No significant changes have developed in the drought situation along the Gulf Coast in the past week.
As of Thursday's revision, 100% of Lee, Charlotte and DeSoto counties are listed as being in moderate drought. In Collier County, 31% is listed in severe drought, with the remainder of the area in moderate drought.
Our inland communities around Lake Okeechobee also saw no significant changes.
62% of Hendry County is experiencing severe drought conditions, and 87% of Glades County is in moderate drought.
Though it is not usual for our area to be dry this time of year, widespread drought conditions are likely to persist in our community for a while.
Tuesday is the only day in the current 7-day forecast with the chance of significant rainfall, but most forecast data keeps rain totals less than .5".
