A Southwest Florida school district is considering a shift to a four-day school week beginning in the 2025-2026 academic year to improve classroom learning and support work- life balance for families and staff.
According to the Glades County School District, the proposed change would involve longer school days from Monday through Thursday, with Fridays off.
Officials say the new model would increase instructional time while giving students and their families a longer weekend to rest and recharge.
District leaders said the plan is part of a broader effort to maintain high academic performance while exploring innovative strategies.
They emphasized that the success of such a change depends on community feedback, which they are currently collecting through a survey . Responses will remain confidential, and the deadline to complete the survey is Friday, April 11.
School officials said they are optimistic that a four-day week could set a new standard for education in the region, offering students the same academic rigor in a more balanced weekly schedule.
