Get ready to spring into the world of rose!
Zach Bingham, director of wine and educational development at the Old Vines Supper Club, joined Gulf Coast News to walk us into the world of "pink" wines.
Rose simply means pink wine. It can be made anywhere in the world, and the only rule is that it must be pink! Rose is one of those categories that often gets all muddled together. A lot of people see it as a one-dimensional category: crisp, light, lean, refreshing alternative that offers a bridge between white and red wine, but often leaning more toward that of the white wine drinker's preference. However, the truth is there is so much more to the category as a whole.
There are a few ways to make wine pink. Most frequently, the process many see is called maceration. Another process — one that dates back centuries — is that of blending or mixing white wine with red wine to achieve the desired structure, color and overall style.
