Charlotte County Commissioners are considering the installation of speed zone cameras in school zones to enhance safety for children and pedestrians.
Commissioners are taking a closer look into what it'll take to ensure safety for your kids and those of you who bike or walk through school zones while keeping extra eyes on you. They're looking to be the next spot to add speed cameras.
Speed cameras have been popping up throughout several school zones in the Gulf Coast. In Cape Coral, there are 17 schools, plus the Sanibel School , as well as Hendry County Schools. Charlotte County is looking to add these cameras outside at least 17 schools.
This is a part of the School Speed Zone Enforcement program ( HB 657 ), which aims to reduce crashes, protect children, and ensure school environments are safe for everyone in the area. If you're caught speeding, you could be fined $100.
Taxpayers don't need to worry; this won't be funded by you but by the violator who's caught speeding through school zones.
