An arrest has been made in connection to a homicide investigation in Arcadia.
According to the Arcadia Police Department, officers responded to a residence on North Arcadia Avenue for a well-being check on April 5.
After investigating further, responding officers found a deceased female in a bedroom of the home.
Investigators eventually arrested Hugh Powell, 65, and charged him with premeditated murder. According to the Arcadia Police Department, he is being held at the DeSoto County Jail with no bond.
Police said this is an ongoing investigation, and updates will be provided as they become available.
City Marshal Quinn Jones also provided a statement that was shared on the Arcadia Police Department's Facebook page :
“First and foremost, I want to extend my heartfelt condolences to the family and loved ones of the victim. The men and women of the Arcadia Police Department are keeping them in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
"I would like to commend the officers from our Road Patrol Division for their response and identification of key evidence at the scene, and the Criminal Investigations Division for their diligent and effective investigative work, which led to the prompt arrest of the suspect. We also extend our sincere appreciation to the DeSoto County Sheriff's Office for their support and the use of their Crime Scene Unit, which was instrumental in the collection of critical evidence.”
