An 18-year-old from Fort Myers has been arrested following a crash that killed a 17-year-old girl along Gladiolus Drive near Maida Lane.
The crash happened on March 12 at approximately 6:46 a.m.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the sedan driven by Isaac Giovani Sales was heading east on Gladiolus Drive on the center lane and approached a red traffic signal at Maida Lane.
Troopers said an SUV was stopped on Gladiolus Drive on the left turn lane. The SUV started to turn left as the traffic signal changed to a green arrow; however, Sales didn't stop for the red light and entered the intersection.
The sedan then collided with the SUV causing the SUV to collide with a wastewater lift station.
Seventeen-year-old Jaciey Hogan was a passenger in the vehicle Sales was driving and was pronounced dead on the scene.
According to FHP, Sales and the driver of the SUV, a 30-year-old Fort Myers man, were seriously injured in the crash.
FHP announced Sales was arrested for vehicular homicide, reckless driving involving serious injury and reckless driving involving property damage. He was booked into the Lee County Jail on Wednesday.
