An art auction along the Gulf Coast recently raised money to help families with brain cancer. The event was called “Not Another Boring Art Auction.”
Keira's Kougars Care is a new nonprofit dedicated to helping Gulf Coast families impacted by brain cancer. The organization is named for 13-year-old Keira Jordan, who died from a form of brain cancer in 2021.
The nonprofit held their art auction on Friday, March 28, at the Alliance for the Arts in Fort Myers. They raised $1,416. Some of the art featured was made and donated by kids who have brain cancer themselves. Community artists and supporters also donated to the cause.
One of the pieces featured a painting of Powerpuff Girls. Kiera started the art before her passing. Another artist finished the work, and the art was auctioned in Kiera's honor.
“My artwork started as a symbolic silhouette for a school project,” said 14-year-old brain cancer fighter Lucas Herteric of Cape Coral. He contributed a painting that sold at the auction. “I added baseball and other things I love. When I heard about the auction, I added more detail. It made me feel proud.”
