A BMW driver was caught on camera flying through a red light in Lehigh Acres along State Road 82 several seconds after the light switched on Tuesday afternoon.
Gulf Coast News spoke with the driver, Kiara Eaton, who saw it happen on her cameras.
"Having my children in the car just makes me feel like I constantly have to be aware at all times," Eaton said.
She said her car shook and wondered what was going on.
"A driver passes my vehicle in a bike lane at a red light that's been red for probably about five, six seconds," Eaton said. "It was selfish, there was just no need for it. I can't really think of an instance where that was necessary to put not only yourself, but a lot of other people at risk."
You can see memorials all over State Road 82, reminding people to slow down due to men and women being killed on the roads.
"I tell people that's a constant reminder that someone lost their life in a motor vehicle crash. That's that's what those memorials are there for," said Jay Anderson, the executive director of Stay Alive Just Drive.
Gulf Coast News showed Anderson the video Thursday evening, he said Jay it was a scary situation.
"Number one speeding, number two, reckless driving aggressive driving, running the red light," Anderson said.
Florida Highway Patrol says that this driver's decision was irresponsible, dangerous and didn't have regard for other safety on the road. State troopers say more than 3,700 lives were lost last year on Florida roadways.
"Give your full, undivided attention to the road not just for your sake, but the people out on the road as well," Eaton said.
