Alexis Leblanc says her life flashed before her eyes when a driver slammed into her truck on Cape Coral Parkway and Pelican Boulevard in March.
"He came up to me and placed his hand on my arm, and said I'm so sorry and I just looked him in the eyes and said, I'm pregnant," Leblanc said.
Leblanc said she couldn't feel anything past her ankle.
"I made the mistake of looking down, and I could see the bone trying to come out the wrong way," Leblanc said.
Crews had to use the jaws of life to get her out, then she was rushed to Gulf Coast Medical Center for emergency surgery, her baby, Jasper, was on the top of her mind.
"They noticed Jasper's heart rate going way up and then shooting way down. And all I remember was the OB telling me that they cut him out now, or else he was going to die," Leblanc said.
So, in the middle of surgery on her leg, she had an emergency C-section.
"All I wanted was to be near him because we never got the chance to bond," Leblanc said.
Even now, almost two weeks later, baby Jasper is still recovering in the neonatal intensive care unit at Golisano Children's Hospital.
Leblanc is home, but won't be able to walk for at least three months. Despite the setback, she's grateful. Now, this family sees each day as its own little miracle.
"Truly just honor the rest of my life, because it definitely feels like a second chance to live," she said.
