The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a crash that killed a 53-year-old LaBelle man on U.S. Highway 27 near Ragan Avenue.
According to FHP, the crash was reported at approximately 3:24 p.m. Monday.
Troopers said a vehicle was traveling north on U.S. Hwy 27 on the outside lane. The vehicle approached a tow truck with a vehicle and trailer in tow that was stopped on the northbound shoulder of the highway.
The LaBelle man was the driver of the tow truck and was standing on the northbound shoulder between the outside lane and U.S. Hwy 27.
According to an FHP news release, the approaching vehicle veered to the right and entered the outside shoulder of U.S. Hwy 27.
The right side of the vehicle then sideswiped the vehicle and trailer in tow and the LaBelle man.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
FHP said the crash remains under investigation.
