A Naples man won a $1 million prize after buying a scratch-off ticket from a grocery store on Marco Island, the Florida Lottery announced Tuesday.
According to the Florida Lottery, the 38-year-old Naples resident Alexander Demooy claimed his prize from the 500X THE CASH scratch-off game at the Lottery’s Fort Myers District Office. He opted for a one-time, lump-sum payment of $640,000.
He purchased the $50 ticket from a Publix on South Barfield Drive, and the store received a $2,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.
The 500X THE CASH scratch-off game offers a top prize of $25 million — the largest ever for a Florida scratch-off — and boasts overall odds of 1-in-4.23.
Since their inception, scratch-off games have awarded more than $65.5 billion in prizes and generated over $19.8 billion for the state’s Educational Enhancement Trust Fund, according to the Lottery.
