Gulf Coast News is learning who died along Palm Drive and Second Avenue, where the Lee County Sheriff’s Office investigated Monday night.
The victim’s sister, Tamesha Edwards, said her little brother, Joshua Hutchins, was shot and killed. She sat down exclusively with Gulf Coast News.
"I couldn't understand why someone would feel the need to do that to Joshua," Edwards said. "Immediately, me and my daughters just start screaming and shouting."
Edwards says she will miss her little brother.
"Josh was really cool, laid back," she said. "He was very talented. He wanted to be a musician himself. I can tell you it will probably never be the same because me and my brother — we made music together."
Edwards said he was going to visit their mom at her house in Pine Manor, but the night ended with him dead.
The Lee County Sheriff's Office said someone shot and killed him along Palm Drive and Second Avenue. It was someone Hutchins knew.
"My mom said it was very shocking because she had seen this guy at her house visiting, coming by, and his girlfriend was saying that they started having some disagreements," she said.
Edwards said her mom lives in Pine Manor because she cannot afford to move due to having a disability. She thinks this all could have been prevented if she lived somewhere else.
"It's very infamous for high crime in that neighborhood," Edwards said. "It's literally almost every block is not like a street of two. It's the whole community there."
Her message is to be careful about who you get involved with.
"Friends, family, co-workers," she said. "Just who you affiliate associate with. Just be careful because you may have one type of heart like Josh did, but they may, they may not have that same agenda for you."
Edwards' family wants justice for Hutchins, especially because he is not here to share his side of the story. The LCSO has not shared if anyone is in custody.
