Widespread power outages were reported across northwestern Lee County on Tuesday afternoon after an insulator malfunctioned at a substation.
At 1:25 p.m., a spokesperson for the Lee County Electric Cooperative said power had been fully restored, and customers should note the last update time on their map, as it does lag behind.
Power was temporarily knocked out to more than 70,000 customers, including nearly all of Pine Island, Sanibel and Captiva with a 99% outage rate.
According to the LCEC map, at 1:10 p.m., the outage also included 84% of southwest Cape Coral, 57% of the northwest part of the city, and 17% of the southeast, with the northeast remaining unaffected.

LCEC said the issue began around 12:40 p.m., and crews were dispatched to find out why the transmission line was having an outage. A bad insulator was found at a substation, and power was rerouted while the equipment was being replaced.
