Firefighters are battling a brush fire that sparked near Interstate 75 just past the Kings Highway exit, causing traffic delays along the interstate.
According to North Port Fire Rescue, the fire was started by a vehicle fire on I-75.
Charlotte County Public Safety said the fire is near mile marker 171, and drivers should expect heavy traffic delays in the area.
North Port Fire Rescue said Charlotte County Public Safety, Nokomis Volunteer Fire Department, DeSoto County Fire Rescue, Florida Forest Service and the North Port Police Department are on the scene of the large brush fire.
A sheriff's office helicopter could also be seen dumping water on the flames in a Facebook post shared by Charlotte County Public Safety.
