Cape Coral could potentially be adding a sidewalk down one of its busiest streets.
The city is looking to add a 5-foot-wide sidewalk to the west side of SW Santa Barbara Place from Nicholas Parkway to Southwest 20th Street. That is a little more than one mile of road.
The new sidewalk would connect to the sidewalk that already exists on SW Santa Barbara Place to the outside of Cape Coral High School.
Cape Coral is working with the Florida Department of Transportation to get the sidewalk done. FDOT will provide a grant of about $872,000 to complete it.
If the city approves the project, it would be expected to be done by the end of 2030.
Correction: An earlier version of this story incorrectly stated Santa Barbara Blvd. The new sidewalks will be on SW Santa Barbara Place.
