A neighborhood in Cape Coral has more than 10,000 new residents settling into their new home.
That home is a bee box. It was recently installed at Gulf Coast Village by resident beekeeper, Ken Maddox. He said the thousands of bees are docile and will likely expand to 30,000 or 40,000 bees in the next few months.
"Besides the fact that I eat some honey every morning with breakfast,” Maddox said, “I don't intend to keep it all for myself.”
A healthy hive will produce gallons of honey, and Maddox has plans to share. “This is sort of a resident's project. It will become that I hope,” Maddox added.
He said he hopes to package some of the honey in small bottles and make it available in the neighborhood thrift shop.
