A terrifying situation for those trying to enjoy a night at the movie theater. Instead of watching a film, they watched officers rush in to tell them to leave.
Moviegoers say they were rushed out by armed police officers. This is moments after a viewer shared a video with us after they were being evacuated.
It happened around 11 p.m. Friday night at the Marquee Theater in Cape Coral.
We showed the video to people in the area, and they said incidents like these are sadly becoming more common.
"It's kind of scary thinking you should be safe in your own community and you're out in the public and you almost have to be afraid to go out of the house," said Cape Coral resident Jim Buchinger.
In situations like this, locals say it really comes down to being prepared and staying alert.
"I guess the best is just to always know your surroundings, see where the nearest exits are. It's sad to say that you have to do that when you're going out in the public, but that would probably be my best defense against it," said Jim and Tracie Buchinger.
Cape Coral police have not responded as to why police evacuated the theater.
