The team at Dermani Medspa in Fort Myers said now is the time for you to get ready for summer.
“This probably would be the best time period, spring, to start it before summer hits,” said Nicole Townson, aesthetician and laser tech at Dermani.
If you are thinking about getting laser hair removal, Townson said before you even schedule an appointment for laser hair removal, there are some things to know.
“When you are sunburned or you have had some sun exposure, you cannot have laser hair removal. It can cause hyperpigmentation and just the risk of that back or pigmentation. You don't want that,” Townson said.
You have to stay out of the sun after your treatment, too.
“Laser can make your skin very sensitive. You can actually get sunburned,” Townson said.
So, how long do you need to stay out of the sun after a treatment?
The owner of Dermani Medspa, Michael Stark, said if you start now, you will be good for summer.
“Any treatment that you get on your skin, whether you're doing a skin rejuvenation treatment or laser hair removal, you want to stay out of the sun for at least two weeks. You want to put on that sunscreen right away. You’re never walking out of Dermani Medspa without sunscreen on,” Stark said.
Even after the two weeks, you still need to be careful.
“It could be six months, it could be six treatments, four to six weeks apart, or a year. Really just depends on the individual,” Stark said.
Remember, this treatment does not happen overnight.
“Be patient, be patient. A lot of people think this is a one-time and done. It takes time. We have three cycles of hair, and we don't know what cycle you're at until you start seeing that patchiness and that hair becoming kind of thin or just not growing in as quick. So, it does take multiple sessions,” Townson said.
Once your sessions are done, it’s time for touchups.
“It's a reduction. So, you do want to keep up with that. So, I say at least twice a year,” Townson said.
