The House Commerce Committee on Tuesday passed a wide-ranging transportation bill that includes raising the speed limit from 70 mph to 75 mph on interstates and other “limited access” highways, as the full Senate is slated to take up the issue Wednesday.
The House bill ( HB 567 ), sponsored by Rep. Fiona McFarland, R-Sarasota, also would increase the speed limit on other divided highways with four or more lanes from 65 mph to 70 mph.
The House bill is now positioned to go to the full House. Like in the House, the proposed speed-limit changes are included in a broad Senate transportation bill ( SB 462 )
